Allanie Sanderson is a Melbourne-based set constructor and costume maker, graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production). She is a detail- oriented maker interested in how scenic textures and costume finishes enhance theatrical storytelling. With a background as both a mechanist and dresser, she values collaboration across departments and approaches theatre-making holistically, moving fluidly between construction, backstage work, and design realisation. Her VCA credits include Costumier for ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’ and Mechanist for ‘Great Expectations’ and is eager to expand her expertise within upcoming roles as Head of Scenic for the 2026 season and Costume Manager for ‘Legally Blonde’ .
I enjoy bringing designs to life through traditional making techniques, surface finishes and detailed construction methods. Whether constructing costumes, painting scenery or fabricating props, I value precision, creativity and teamwork throughout every stage of the production process.
Throughout my theatre training and professional experience I have worked across multiple production departments including costume, scenic art, props and workshop operations.
Working within production workshops has strengthened my knowledge of construction techniques, scenic finishing, painting, prop fabrication and backstage production practices.
Alongside my workshop practice, I have developed a strong interest in mechanist work, theatre flying systems and stage automation.
My long-term goal is to continue developing practical skills within mechanist departments while pursuing further professional training in fly systems and automation for live performance.
